The Festival has attracted sell-out audiences to a wide range of titles including Gennaro Nunziante’s immensely popular comedy What A Beautiful Day/Che bella giornata, Paulo Virzi’s bittersweet The First Beautiful Thing/La prima cosa bella and the thriller The Girl By The Lake/La ragazza del lago which formed part of the Festival focus on actor Toni Servillo.

” We are immensely pleased with the public response to the 2011 programme, ” declared Festival co-director Richard Mowe. ” There have been enthusiastic audiences across the three venues in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow who have really made the most of the opportunity to watch a selection of Italian films that may otherwise never be seen on British screens.”

The Festival, founded and curated by Richard Mowe and Allan Hunter, is supported by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the Consolato Generale d’Italia and sponsored by Valvona & Crolla VinCaffe. The Festival’s ethos has been to screen the best of contemporary Italian cinema and showcase classic gems from the great names of the past. This year’s Festival gave audiences a rare chance to see Roberto Rossellini’s 1959 Oscar-nominated classic General Della Rovere/Il Generale della Rovere which also won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.

” Literally thousands of Scottish cinemagoers have turned out to support the Festival this year, ” reports co-director Allan Hunter. ” It has been a great encouragement to everyone involved and reinforces our intention to increase the scope and reach of the Festival in 2012.”

The directors have announced that the 2012 Italian Film Festival tentatively will run from April 13-26. For further details and updated information keep an eye on this website.

We would like to sincerely thank festival patrons and sponsors for their ongoing support.
